Having now completed your Initial Assessment you will have been asked by your Regional Trainer to complete a Diagnostic Programme to prepare for your Functional Skills Assessment. This will be for: English Maths ICT (if applicable) This will do 2 major things: 1. Demonstrate your readiness to take your Functional Skill assessment 2. Highlight areas that you may need further support in order to prepare for your assessment This MUST be completed in Full as instructed by your Regional Trainer. This will need to be completed at home in your own time. It is essential that you have time to do this in a quiet area and not rushed.
The following is guidance to access your “Live” account from home in order to be able to complete the Diagnostic. 1) Firstly you need to go to the following Web Address: http://www. bksblive. co. uk/bksblive1/LifetimeTraining/default. aspx 2) Log in by entering your National Insurance Number and password. As this is the first time you have logged in, your password will be set as “password”. As this is the first time you have logged into your own account it will ask you to change the password to something more personal. Complete the form to set your new password.
NB – If you are having problems logging in, your first port of call needs to be your Regional Trainer as it may be that they have not registered you yet and you will not be able to log in until they have done so. 3) Scroll to the bottom of the page where it will show “English”, “Maths” and “ICT” (if relevant. ) Click on the “Take Diagnostic” tab for “Maths” and “English” (and “ICT” if relevant) independently. Complete the full Diagnostic. (Please note a dictionary can be used for the “English” and a calculator may be used for the “Maths”. ) This will be uploaded onto your portfolio and your Regional
Trainer will check this regularly to track your progression. It is essential that when you complete these you have time to do so, you are alone and that you complete it to the best of your ability. It is also important here that you don’t guess. If you don’t know, leave it unanswered. The reason for this is you may guess the answer and get it right without full understanding, therefore not highlighting this as an area for development. They must show an accurate reflection of your ability. 4) Now you have completed your Diagnostic your assessor can show you the breakdown of areas into RED, AMBER, GREEN categories.
RED is classified as areas that NEEDS PRACTICE AMBER is classified as areas that your need to TAKE CARE with GREEN is classified as areas that are VERY GOOD GREEN is classified in areas that you are VERY GOOD 5) Where you have RED or AMBER areas your Regional Trainer will then discuss with you the way in which the system will help to support and coach you to develop these areas. Ultimately the way this works is the BKSB system in which you take your diagnostic will provide activities for you to complete in order to up skill your weak areas.
6) To do this you click on ‘interactive resources’ to practice in these areas, and ‘skills checks’ are the tests to check your progress and development. As you complete these the system will update showing where you have completed the specific tasks. Once they are all complete and passed to a satisfactory level your Regional Trainer will guide you further to prepare you for your full assessment.
